Static Website or Dynamic Website?
What’s the difference?
While you would not immediately notice, there are many static websites on the internet today, but because of ease of use and flexibility of dynamic sites, they are slowly becoming a less likely option for designers and end-user clients alike.
A static webpage (sometimes called a flat-page) is a web page delivered to the end-user exactly as it is stored on the server. A static page will deliver the same information and graphics for every person. Each page is hand coded to hold the information and requires manual editing by someone with HTML, SHTML, CSS and/or PHP coding knowledge to make changes. Often times if a site owner does not spend the money to have a developer keep his website content up to date, a website can quickly become outdated and stagnant.
These websites, while lacking in updated functionality, are cheaper and faster to create, develop and host. Many small businesses and independent website owners still choose this option for price alone.
Dynamic Websites are, for the most part, database driven websites where web pages are built in code based sections that the web browser pulls together, creating a complete page for the viewer. Often, these websites give the website owner the ability up create new pages and update content on the fly without the need of a 2nd party thru an administration back-end (like the WordPress Dashboard).
These dynamic websites are generally more expensive and time consuming to develop although they give the site owner a much larger flexibly and freedom to maintain the site themselves, which can save money in the long run.
If you are looking for a budget website, or only need a portfolio or business services advertisement style site where content does not need changed frequently, then a static website design may suit your needs.
For our clients who prefer this option we can create several mock-up designs in Adobe Photoshop per your needs and aesthetic requests, making edits until you are satisfied with the design. Once this is accomplished we can built your site using the most recent technologies including CSS and PHP.
